History, Facts and Opinions

America is a rich tapestry of myths, legends and history. At American Storytellers we will deal mostly in history, which is to say, “Just the facts, ma’am.” If we cover a topic that involves myths or legends, we will make that clear. That being said, storytellers are people and people have their own opinions. We cannot promise that our opinions will not color our stories. That is part of what makes our stories captivating. We also understand that people disagree with our opinions. We acknowledge your right to say that our opinions are full of crap but, please, do so in the politest possible language. However, we do not acknowledge anyone’s right to their own facts. If you think we have made a factual error and you have evidence to prove it, let us know. If we can verify it, we will correct our work. If not, we won’t. Anyone who doesn’t like it can go back to Faux News where they obviously belong.

Fine-tuning our language

We are living through interesting times and everything from the dignity of the Presidency to the proper way for preschoolers to finger paint is changing constantly. We believe in diversity, self-determination for all people and the right of you to do you. We will always try to use the most respectful language for individuals and groups in our stories. If we get it wrong, we will correct our material as best we can. We refuse to promise perfection. We will do our best. I do need to add a caveat here. There are times when we need to quote or use the language of a bygone period. We will use that language in its context. For example, if we quote Mark Twain’ Huckleberry Finn or George Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess, we will use what the author wrote. If you object, please feel free to get in a time machine and go debate it with Mr. Twain or Mr. Gershwin.

Rules for Comments & Conversations

Studying history, especially political or religious history, is a rough sport. If you are highly sensitive or cannot handle your opinions and beliefs being challenged, please think twice before commenting. We will not punish someone for saying Reagan was an awful President or that Uncle Tom’s Cabin is overrated trash just because you disagree. Sorry. Those are opinions and everyone gets one, just like *ssholes. We are only concerned with things that are FACTUALLY incorrect. Opinions will have to take care of themselves.

Everyone must conform to the rules of the platform. We just do NOT need the hassle that breaking the rules will entail.

No ethnic, racist or sexist slurs will be tolerated unless they were in vogue before 1620 CE.

No personal attacks especially on sensitive topics like income/class, ethnicity/race/religion, body-type, gender/sexuality (in all the flavors), or children under 18.

Insults or jokes about size or body-image will piss Grace off and she will ban your ass. Yes, she has body-images issues, you gotta problem with that?

No advocating of violence, criminal activity or treason.

We will add more rules as we need them.
