We want to tell stories about American history that are accurate, interesting, exciting and relatable. American history is a beautiful tapestry full of exciting deeds, infamous crimes, and inspirational moments that stir the soul. Lately, it has been torn to tatters by people saying “This is my history. Not yours.” or the inverse, which is worse, “That’s your history; not mine.” American history belongs to all of us. All of it – the beauty and the blemishes. American Storytellers are proud of that history, and we think you are too.
American Storytellers promises to tell these stories using as many different formats as the digital age will allow. We will share stories that are accurate, verified and provable because we believe that the REAL story is much more amazing than any Hollywood-ized, glamorous fictional series “inspired by real events.” Furthermore, we will include major sources whenever possible and if asked will provide detailed source material.
History is an art as well as a science. That is why it is the only social science with its own muse, Clio. On the scientific side historians research what happened and when. Like detectives solving a crime they examine evidence, interview survivors, page through old newspapers and snoop through old letters. They discover new elements to old familiar stories and discover exciting new stories which no one’s ever heard before. The art of history is telling the stories that scientists pieced together. Sadly, this side of the discipline has been neglected in the modern age. Historians usually write for other historians and their work is full of jargon, overly detailed and dry. They do not write gripping sagas that keep you on the edge of your seat. With Clio’s help, American Storytellers wants to change that. The American story IS a gripping saga that SHOULD keep you on the edge of your seat. We plan to bring the art of storytelling back to history. We want to bring back the excitement, the romance, the suspense and the epic-ness to our shared story. We want to tell the familiar stories in exciting new ways and delight you with heroic tales you’ve never heard before. Our goal is that every citizen take pride in our shared national story and acknowledge our national mistakes with honesty and dignity.
